Right at the turn into Waterbury, Vermont, you’ll find Maxi’s—a cozy little spot with a whole lot of history. Before it became a restaurant, this place was everything from a farm to a market, rebuilt after the big flood of 1927. In 1953, Maxfield “Maxi” Irish and Walter “Bud” Deal gave it a playful new name: the “I’Deal Market.” Bud ran it for over 50 years, making it a true community hub.
When the building finally became a restaurant, the new owners wanted to keep that spirit alive. They chose the name “Maxi’s” as a nod to the past, and today it’s still a gathering place where locals and visitors alike feel right at home.
Step inside and you’ll find tin ceilings, local artwork, a long welcoming bar, and even a little corner to keep kids busy while you wait. Maxi’s may be small, but it’s full of character, good food, and the kind of warmth you only find in Vermont.
